FIRESAFE TO EXHIBIT AT BESA ‘HACKITT’ CONFERENCE 2020

Haslingden, UK – Firesafe will be exhibiting (with a virtual stand) at the BESA National Conference 2020, 4th-5th November. The event has gone online for the first time ever, due to Covid-19 restrictions.

There will be a firm focus on the third-party certified manufacture and installation of our CASWELL FIRESAFE® brand of Fire Resisting Ductwork.

Dame Judith Hackitt, DBE – who famously and irrevocably tied her name to the ‘Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety : Hackitt review’ – has been announced as the keynote guest speaker. The review identified serious failings in Fire Safety Regulations and compliance oversight, which lead her to make many scathing observations following the Grenfell tragedy, reportedly including:

• Roles and responsibilities for building safety are “unclear”.
• Regulations and guidance are “ambiguous and inconsistent.”
• Regulation compliance processes are “weak and complex.”
• Competence across the supply chain is “patchy.”
• Product testing and marketing is “opaque and insufficient.”

Since then, there have been many positive steps by industry and Governmental agencies in addressing these issues; but there is more, much more, still to be done. 

Jonathan O’Neill OBE, Managing Director of the Fire Protection Association, responded to the Government’s plan to implement all recommendations made in the Hackitt review.
He said, “We welcome acknowledgement of the value of third-party certificated products, but this should be mandated and extend to product installers and risk assessors.”
